Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has landed in trouble after his viral gesture during the emotional IPL 2026 thriller against Mumbai Indians sparked disciplinary action from the league.
The IPL on Monday fined David 30 per cent of his match fee and handed him two demerit points for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct during RCB’s dramatic last-ball win over Mumbai Indians.

In an official statement, the IPL confirmed that David violated Article 2.6 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to “using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting.”
“Tim David, All-rounder, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been fined 30% of his applicable match fee and has also accumulated two demerit points for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team officials,” the IPL statement read.
“Tim was found to have breached Article 2.6 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting. Tim David admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee Amit Sharma.”
The disciplinary action came after a video of David making a middle-finger gesture from the RCB dugout went viral across social media platforms following the high-voltage clash.
The incident quickly became one of the biggest talking points from the dramatic encounter, which ended with RCB sealing a thrilling final-ball victory to knock Mumbai Indians out of the IPL 2026 playoff race.
David, meanwhile, endured a disappointing outing with the bat during the game itself. The Australian all-rounder was dismissed for a golden duck after mistiming a pull shot off Corbin Bosch, with wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton completing the catch.
This also marks the second time this season that David has been penalised for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

Earlier in the tournament, he was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for “disobeying an umpire’s instruction” during RCB’s previous clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
